New appointments at Hewland Engineering to boost growth targets

Hewland Engineering logoHewland Engineering has announced four strategic appointments to support the company’s aggressive growth targets for 2013 and beyond. Malcolm Rooker becomes a non-executive board director, Ken Wallace is appointed to the role of Business Development Manager, working closely with Alex Thornton who has joined the company as Sales Co-ordinator. Quality remains paramount at Hewland and the goal is to attain ISO 9001 certification in 2013. This will be achieved under the direction of Dave Hawke, the new Operations Manager.

Malcolm Rooker is a seasoned professional who brings a wealth of experience in corporate governance, legal and financial affairs. Having graduated in Law from Warwick University in 1986, Malcolm qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 with global accounting firm Deloitte and his subsequent experience has spanned both the professional and private sector with board responsibilities within UK FTSE 100 companies.

Ken Wallace has spent 28 years at Hewland, working his way up from the shop floor through the bevel gearing and QA departments to Production Engineering Manager. This strong background in engineering, coupled with his international race support experience allows him to forge excellent relationships with manufacturers and race teams. This is a great asset to his new role as he develops and maintains customer relationships within the motorsport industry.

Alex Thornton has recently joined Hewland from M-Sport, where he used his knowledge of rallysport to manage customer relations during new vehicle builds. Like Ken, he has spent time developing “track-side” relationships and has been personally involved with every Ford Fiesta WRC / RRC and S2000 customer team to date. Alex will be working alongside Ken to develop customer relationships and follow leads for new business.

The challenge of preparing for ISO 9001 accreditation, along with the introduction of LEAN manufacturing, ensuring quality and efficiency from receipt of customer order to the despatch of the final product, will be taken on by Dave Hawke as part of his new appointment as Operations Manager. Dave has over thirty years’ experience in precision engineering in a variety of sectors, including defence, aerospace and 15 years as Head of Manufacturing for a leading Formula One team.

William Hewland, Chairman of Hewland Engineering, explains: “This is an exciting point in Hewland’s growth and we very much welcome Malcolm’s strategic expertise on the board. It is also vital to have two strong additions to the business development team as we expand our reach within the industry. Hewland’s commitment to quality engineering is as important as ever so the appointment of Dave, with his aim to get us ISO 9001 accredited, reflects this. With these four appointments, Hewland is in its best position yet to meet its growth and diversification objectives.”
