Sogefi responds to economic crisis with robust logistic plans

WarehouseSogefi Aftermarket Division – home of the UK’s leading FRAM and CoopersFiaam filter brands reports that changes it has made to its logistics services and company structure in 2011 have set it up for continued growth in 2012.

Key to this has been Sogefi’s investment in a more streamlined and responsive logistics provision. The company has restructured from seven warehouses across Europe to three specialist warehouses; comprising its main headquarters situated in Paris, and two secondary warehouses, offering next day service, in the UK and Spain. The world leading filtration company also extended its current OE range part numbers and have also strengthened the sales of Purflux in 2011.

General Manager of the Aftermarket Division of the Sogefi Group, Andrea Taschini, confirms: “2011 hasn’t been an easy year for much of the aftermarket sector across Europe; and it has been particularly tough in the UK. Sogefi has taken a proactive approach, by re-organising and re-structuring its division across Europe. We have centralised our headquarters in Paris and appointed new teams and services across marketing, logistics, supply chain and increased the quality of our customer services. It has also given us the opportunity to re-organise our UK aftermarket operation in terms of logistics strategy.”

In core to Sogefi’s new UK logistics provision is a new, modern warehouse, opened in October which moves its previous distribution from Llantrisant in South Wales, to a more centrally located, specialist logistics provider. Taschini continues: “Geodis, an established provider to the Sogefi Aftermarket Division in Europe with a proven ability to achieve high levels of delivery performance and distribution support, is now operating our aftermarket next day delivery service from a modern, future-ready distribution centre located at Lutterworth, East Midlands. The purpose-built, 10,400 sq. m. location offers 20,000 pallet locations; it has easy access to key transit routes; and it ensures we can offer state-of-the-art barcoding, picking and delivery arrangements.

“The decision to re-structure our distribution service gives us a much better service level overall in the UK and Ireland. We are also confident that this specialist logistic provider will ensure Sogefi achieves a more robust and efficient next day service for all our distributor customers – including later order cut-off times.”

Leading filter brands

2011 has also seen several range extensions and new part numbers introduced across the group’s popular FRAM and CoopersFiaam brands. Premium filter brand Purflux has also been introduced to the UK for the first time. Taschini comments: “We introduced the Purflux brand to the UK via GSF (German, Swedish and French), in early 2011, complementing our successful FRAM and CoopersFiaam brands. A brand new customer to Sogefi, with over 60 sites across the UK, GSF offers nationwide distribution of all-makes vehicle parts. They currently offer Purflux across French applications very successfully, and have extended to all-makes applications in 2011. Sales are increasing and developing in a positive way, which we intend to progress further in 2012.”

Sogefi continues to offer marketing leading brands with FRAM continuing to be the number one filter brand in the UK and CoopersFiaam also enjoying its position as one of the UK’s top selling replacement filter brands.

Sogefi offer one of the widest OE quality ranges of filters on the market and intend to introduce 100 new part numbers across its brands each year. Taschini concludes: “Following the reorganising of the company structure across Europe, and completion of the logistics restructure in 2011, our focus is now to drive these changes forward in 2012. Our commitment to customers is to continue to extend our product ranges and enhance service levels to arrive at an excellent market position for all Sogefi brands in the UK.”
