Staff at a national used car group have been thanked with a special award for making a profound difference to the lives of people coping with a sudden and unexpected trauma.

The surprise accolade was presented to ACF Car Finance by BEN, the automotive industry charity which supports past and present members of the trade.

The charity said that the decision to make a special award was taken because of the outstanding efforts made by staff at the firm during 2012 on behalf of the 107-year-old charity.

ACF Car Finance operates a national network of used car showrooms, the majority of whose customers are provided with non-prime loans from its parent company, The Funding Corporation.

Accepting the award for ACF Car Finance was the company’s marketing manager Jane Whittle who also heads the firm’s charity committee based at its Chester headquarters.

BEN’s Chief Executive David Main said that staff had shown exceptional enterprise in the way they had raised cash for the charity through a range of different initiatives over the past year.

Activities ranged from parachute jumps and long-distance races to themed charity days, teddy bear beauty contests and sponsored car washes of staff cars by the firm’s directors.

BEN also benefits from ACF Car Finance’s payroll giving scheme, the success of which resulted in the company receiving in 2012 a top platinum award from the Institute of Fundraising.

“We certainly had no idea that we had been chosen to receive a special recognition from BEN, but everyone here is absolutely delighted that they have honoured us in this way,” said Jane Whittle.

“Our eight-strong charity committee is constantly coming up with amazing ideas for fundraising, and everyone in the company shows massive support for the different events.

“On top of that, the directors of ACF Car Finance double up all of the money our committee brings in, so that’s another incentive to aim high,” said Jane.

BEN runs four care centers and a day-care centre the UK, and steps in whenever a past or present member of the motor industry, or a relative, suffers a sudden crisis in their lives.
