Sunday March 26 is the date that all Formula One fans have been eagerly waiting for – the official start of the 2017 motorsport season with the Rolex Australian Grand Prix, taking place at Albert Park, Melbourne.

For nearly half a century, DENSO has sponsored world-class motor sports, including NHRA, NASCAR, World Rally Championship, Super GT races, and Formula One.

Following the start of the F1 season, the Toyota Gazoo Racing team will continue pre-season testing of its latest race vehicle on April 1-2.

This year, F1 engine performance will be even more important, with the heavily-revised aerodynamic regulations coming into play. This year’s rules revamp will focus on wider cars with improved aerodynamics and bigger tyres, which will be able to cut lap times by five seconds, largely through increased cornering speeds.

DENSO produces parts tested at the highest levels of motorsport which will help motorsport cars meet these regulations. Its Iridium TT, for example, embodies the highest concentration of iridium of any product on the market – its unique technology combines the world’s smallest diameter electrode improving performance, efficiency and durability for motorsports vehicles, and reflecting DENSO’s own motorsport heritage and its continuing commitment to provide drivers across the world with innovative performance products.

Over the years, DENSO and Toyota have closely cooperated in the field of motorsports and 2017 is no different with DENSO continuing to supply components such as Spark Plugs and other necessary support to contribute to the team’s success. The manufacturer plans to unveil the TS050 Toyota Hybrid race car on March 31.

DENSO will also outline its impressive motorsport innovations at the STCC racing championships in Scandinavia later on in the year. The 2015 Toyota race car featured a rear hybrid motor system developed by DENSO and in 2017 DENSO will continue to be a proud supporter of Volvo Polestar.

The Frenchmen took their Ecoboost-powered Ford Fiesta WRC to second place and aided by a fine fourth place from Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja, the team has strengthened its lead at the head of the manufacturer standings.

Having encountered Tarmac, snow and gravel in the opening three rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship, the Ford Fiesta has excelled – securing stage victories and podium places across all events.

Reigning FIA World Rally Champion Ogier has 66 points overall, while Ott Tänak is now third in the drivers’ championship with 48 points. Fellow Fiesta driver Elfyn Evans, who with Daniel Barritt finished ninth in the rally, is in eighth position overall. The M-Sport team now has 103 points, 36 in front of the second-placed team Toyota Gazoo Racing WRC.

The ignition specialist is backing the 46-year-old current champion as well as two more exciting riders competing in the 2017 FIM Speedway Grand Prix season.

For the first time NGK is supporting ninth-ranked Slovenian Matej Zagar (33) and Russian Emil Sayfutdinov (27), who has previously finished third in the championship.

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said: “We are delighted to announce that we will be continuing our long-standing support of Greg as he attempts to retain his title this year as well as Matej and Emil who I am sure will be competing alongside him at the top of the leader board.

“As a company, we are a long-time supporter of Speedway which is a real family sport that boasts a big following amongst our customers and the public, many of whose motorcycles and cars are fitted with our components.

“All three riders will feature the new NGK motorsport logos on their racing leathers which we are sure will attract a lot of attention at all the Grand Prix this season, both trackside, and on television where they will once again be broadcast by BT Sport.”

Last season American Hancock became one of the top six riders of all time in terms of world title victories when he joined fellow four-time winners New Zealand’s Barry Briggs and Denmark’s Hans Nielsen and will be looking to improve on that position this season which begins on Saturday, April 29, in Krsko, in Matej Zagar’s Slovenian homeland and finishes in Melbourne, Australia in October.

NGK – the leading supplier of original equipment (OE) spark plugs, glow plugs and NTK Lambda and other engine management sensors – has long been synonymous with the two-wheel bike scene where its spark plugs have helped the world’s leading teams and riders to numerous victories.
