Ben Eaton, 20, of Sytner BMW Sheffield has been selected to represent Team UK for WorldSkills London 2011, taking place at ExCeL from October 5-8. Competing in the Car Painting category, which is supported and assisted by Sherwin-Williams Automotive Finishes, Ben will come head to head with other young people from 19 countries/regions, hoping to be crowned the ‘best of the best’. In total 1000 competitors from over 50 countries and regions will be taking part in 46 skills at WorldSkills London 2011.
The youngster was one of three finalists who tested his skills in paint refinishing. He was assessed throughout the programme in various types of coatings from Sherwin-Williams such as corrosion protection primers, primer fillers and topcoats applied to the interior and exterior parts of a vehicle.
The HP Process with air-dry technology from Sherwin-Williams is the preferred paint of choice for this year’s WorldSkills competition, incorporating clear coats, base coats, urethane coatings and primers. The revolutionary air-dry technology allows bodyshops to turn off the heat in the spray booth, reducing energy requirements significantly and eliminating the need for high temperature bake cycles to achieve a fast cure time. The HP Process cures at ambient 20-25° Centigrade room temperatures in up to an hour, depending on the colour and size of job. This impacts bodyshops’ bottom line by increasing productivity by as much as 50%, enabling quicker applications between coats, and dramatically reducing their carbon footprint.
Ray Marsh, Sales Director Northern Europe, Sherwin-Williams UK Automotive Ltd, says: “After the exacting heats, Ben has come through brilliantly to represent Team UK on the international stage. We’re delighted to have been a part of his progress and are very proud to be associated with the best skills training programme in the world, supporting the ambitions of young people. We wish Ben and all the members of Team UK the very best in the finals. We will be supporting them all the way.”
